Your Family Photography
Session and Preparation Info
Welcome
First of all, thank you -
I love hearing more about every family and about how you would like me to capture yours!
I will have tried to cover as much as possible when we spoke and we probably covered most things but while I'm not usually one for lists, I want you to have everything written out to be sure it’s 100% clear.
And of course, if you're still wondering about something after you've had a read through, I’m more than happy to answer any questions that come up for you.
Why I do this work
As I type this, my little boy is sat on my lap and he's trying to hammer the hell out of my keyboard
(because that's what he thinks my work is!). My desk is covered in his colouring pens, Lego and dinosaurs. And you know what? I wish I had a picture of it.
Because this won't last forever, by the time you read this that moment will be gone.
It used to be my daughter, hammering at my keyboard (switch out the Lego and dinosaurs for unicorns) but not now. I feel like she was born yesterday sometimes but the truth is, I don't even walk her all the way to school anymore!
This time in life is so short and I really don’t want to forget how it feels.
I want to remember the faces she used to pull, the cheeky laughter, putting her parts on, bathtime and bedtime.
AND… I WANT TO HELP YOU REMEMBER THIS TIME IN YOUR LIFE.
Let’s make prints!
You know what the worst feeling is as a photographer? Finishing only 75% of the job.
And honestly, that’s how I feel every time someone doesn’t print their photos.
I work hard to make your images. It's not hard work - I love it - but it's tough learning that people didn't find the time to print their images properly.
But that's life. It's my life too and remember, if anyone should be making prints, it's me! But most people, without a little help, will find themselves in this same situation.
In a world of continuous streams of images, pictures become the past after just a few minutes from upload, rather than years. That's why physical photos are so important. They hold together our past, present and future.
My promise to you
All that time and money invested deserves a better return than long-forgotten digital files on a dusty USB.
You'll never get the same feeling looking at your photos on a screen as you will seeing them on your wall or flipping through the pages of an album together. So now, instead of that USB I include a substantial print credit with every collection.
This is how I advocate for you to close the loop and enjoy your images for real - they aren't photos unless they're printed!
So let me capture your time together and help you to have those pictures made into prints. I promise, you will never regret not putting this off. Never.
Let’s capture your family story now
You are giving your kids your best right now. That takes up a lot of time!
But you deserve to remember that book you read them every night for a year. You deserve to remember the goodnight kisses, the morning cuddles and the tantrums you endured.
Photos document not only what’s happening, but also how amazing you all are. They’ll show you the amazing job you do as parents and the memories (you don't even know) you're making every single day. I know it can often feel the opposite but you’re doing a great job and I want to show you.
I promise, I will capture it for you in all it's glorious chaos but I also promise to make sure that the mayhem of daily life doesn't stop you from turning your pictures into prints.
Because finding the time between work and family is hard. So, make it easy on yourself! If you make this commitment, to yourself and your family, I'm confident, you'll thank me later!
The spend
Session prices start from £245 and include your photo session and pre-session video call.
Once your photos are ready for viewing, you can choose a photo collection of digital image files and select photos from a whole host of printed products too. And I’m on hand to help.
After your session you get to choose your prints and frames! Collections start from £495 and each one includes print credit to get you on your way to hanging those frames on your wall.
Your photos will make you and your family smile for years to come and they will last, at least, long enough to share your memories with the grandchildren too!
You can have your images as a digital file too but trust me, you’ll thank me more for your album and frames than you ever would a USB!
“Everything is PERFECT, thank you again. It was a complete blast and honestly – we had high expectations of the photos and I’m still completely blown away. You know how much I loved our wedding shoot (duh), but I actually think this one might be even more magical. I can’t wait to see the pictures printed !“

Let’s get the ball rolling!
How to book your session
Reserving your date & choosing your session
In order to reserve your date, you will sign some paperwork and pay a session fee (there’ll be a link in your email).
Your session fee depends on what kind of session you opt for. Please see your options, below, for a little reminder.
If we haven’t already, the easiest way to compare calendars is for you to email or call me with a few dates that work for your family – I always try to be as flexible as possible, and once we find a date, booking is 100% online and takes just a few minutes.
Scheduling Your Session
As you pull out your calendar, here are a few things to consider:
• Weekend dates are limited and popular. If you are having a Happy Hour…and a Half session then it is possible that by scheduling early in the morning or late in the afternoon, we can work a session in with almost no time lost at the office.
• Given the beautiful colors and temperate weather, Spring and Autumn are the busiest
times of year for outdoor family photos. If you’d like a session during one of those times (ESPECIALLY if you want a weekend spot), please get in touch as soon as possible!
• If you have a particular date or holiday by which you need prints or gifts (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas, etc.), be sure to book a date at least one month in advance of that date to ensure sufficient processing and printing time.
• Babies and young children are almost universally at their very best first thing in the morning, which just happens to be a great time of day for beautiful light. If you have children under five years old and are hoping to have photos taken of outdoor activities, I encourage you to consider a session at or as close to sunrise as you can reasonably be ready.
• If you have older children or have one of those rare babies that doesn’t do mornings, the other time of day that gives us great light is late afternoon/early evening… usually around 1.5 hours before sunset.
• Beautiful photographs can be made in any kind of weather, but I understand that there are some downsides to being photographed in the pouring rain or the freezing cold. I can and do reschedule sessions for inclement weather, but as a documentary family photographer some of my favourite photos and I hope yours too, will come from simply being together at home where you can stay warm and dry, if you want to. But if your children love splashing in puddles (and who doesn’t?) then I’d encourage you to brave the rain and I’ll capture that for you too!

Confirming your session
A few days before our session is scheduled, I'll reach out to confirm our time and location… at that point, if the forecast is questionable or someone seems to be coming down with a cold, we can talk about our rescheduling options. Otherwise, that's the perfect time to ask any last-minute questions or let me know if you've come up with a fun idea we haven't discussed.
How long will it take?
The amount of time I spend with you depends on the type of session you chose and if you opted for Halfsies, A Day in Our Life or, Blink and You'll Miss it then I will call you before the event to give you more details about my approach.
If you chose a Happy Hour...and a Half session then, as the name suggests we are typically done within 90 minutes or so, but I don't charge by the hour. So, don't fret it if there's some kind of wardrobe malfunction, child or, even, parental meltdown, I like to stay flexible.
If a family member has to leave for an important meeting but the rest of the family is still available, that's fine… just let me know ahead of time so I can focus on getting that parent in the frame while they're available.
Finally, take a breath and relax… this isn't a studio shoot. Grown-ups and their little ones can take as many breaks throughout the session as needed, and to make it as painless as possible for everyone involved.
If it would ease tensions to crack open a beer before I arrive - or a champagne cocktail with breakfast - well, then, I say go for it! The whole point of these shoots is that you do you!
